You need to export your buddy list from AIM (just the buddy list, not any of the settings), clean out a lot of the newer AIM stuff from that list (reminders, alarms, etc.), then import that in to the Sametime client.
Unfortunately, this is the way it works in Sametime, as the AIM capability is pretty much locked at the AIM 1.0 feature set. No alarms, no retrieval of your buddy list off of a server, etc.
Also, this capability was removed in Sametime 6.5.1, to be replaced at some point in the future, I'm guessing, by a SIP connection, if AOL ever allows such a thing.
